When Mother’s Day Is Bitter Sweet – Saturday, May 11th, 2019
Motherhood is one of the highest callings God has entrusted to us as women, and it is only right that we take a day, at the least, to celebrate the mothers of this world. However, for many, Mother’s Day is a heavy and difficult day. After having personally experienced a failed adoption this past July, I found myself dreading this upcoming Mother’s Day. As I began to talk to friends and family about how I was feeling, God suddenly opened my eyes to the other women around me who are also approaching Mother’s Day this year with a heaviness in their hearts, even if their situation is different from mine. When I began to look past myself, I saw women struggling with infertility, mamas who are praying desperately for their prodigal children, mothers who have lost children, women who are facing their first Mother’s Day after the loss of their own mother, ladies whose mothers have chosen not to be in their lives for various reasons, and moms who are simply struggling to keep it all together as they strive to be Godly mothers and wives.
Therefore, this conference is not solely for those of us who long for motherhood so strongly our hearts physically ache. This is a gathering for women of all stages of life, regardless of their current connection to motherhood. This is a day where I invite all the women in our community to come together as one in fellowship as we praise our God together even through the difficulties that Mother’s Day may present to us.
